Acer Liquid Z530 review: Budget pocket friendly Smartphone

Not long before, renowned PC manufacturer Acer stepped into the growing smartphone market with two new phones, the Z530 and Z630S. Crafted with brilliance, the new beauties introduced by the company pack some exemplary features at reasonable price tags. They look good on the spec sheet, and are currently available via famous online portals. But, the thing is, they deliver nothing more than what renowned budget players already have on offer. The sub-10k price bracket is the biggest playing in the smartphone segment, and it’ll be a tough time for Acer to make its space against leading players.

Acer Liquid Z530

So, keeping in what the company needs, we tried Acer Liquid Z530 to see, can the phone really make deliver a good smartphone experience for the price at which it comes. Have a look to know more!

Design and Build Quality

When it comes to aesthetics, Acer Liquid Z530 makes a decent impression with curved corners and a brushed plastic rear panel. The phone looks far better than standard budget phones and boasts off an earpiece on the top of its display and a circular mesh grill running round the rear mounted speaker. It gives a firm grip, but uneven weight distribution and odd placement of power button at the top makes one hand operation a little difficult.

On whole, the Z530 packs a well-built body with a mixture of conventional and unconventional aesthetics. It looks quite unique for a budget price!

Display Quality

Moving ahead, the 5-inch HD IPS display packed with Acer Liquid Z530 gives a decent viewing experience. It packs something around 294 pixels per square inch, and gives you a good visual trip with standard colour reproduction and adequate viewing angles. It’s not the best display under sub-10k price category, but for 7k, you cannot get anything better!

The sunlightlegibility of the smartphone is fairly impressive. Acer’s Zero Air Gap technology ensures bright colour rendering under broad sunlight, and gives perfect output indoors as well as outdoors. It’s least susceptible to fingerprints, and is essentially one of the best HD display panels in the segment.

Processor and Performance

Under the hood, Acer Liquid Z530 powers up by a MediaTek MT6735 quad-core SoC clocked at 1.3GHz and pairs up with 2GB of RAM and Mali-T720 GPU. The phone looks much powerful than standard Snapdragon 410 powered smartphones, and gave very impressive results in the benchmark tests.

While running through AnTuTu and Vellamo tests, Z530gave decent scores, and promised good overall performance. In real life testing, it outperformed standard budget phones and gave a swift user-experience while browsing the internet, switching between apps and playing high-end games. Throughout the testing period, it delivered slick performance and didn’t reveal any lags, stutter or thermal glitches. It began heating up after 5 minutes of gameplay, which is again quite normal for a phone of this price. Overall, the performance of this handset is likely to remain slick even on heavy usage and frequent multi-tasking.

Software and OS

The software of Acer liquid Z530 is nothing new for Android lovers. The phone runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out-of-the box, and gives a standard Android UI with an app drawer and a bunch of pre-installed applications. Unlike Xiaomi and Lenovo devices, it does not incorporate a custom skin, and keeps everything simple and very normal. The only that disappoints us in this phone is the huge amount of bloatware. There are tons of pre-loaded apps, which eat up more than 3GB of dedicated 16GB built-in-storage. This is really annoying, as users barely get something around 10GB of internal storage for work and play!

Camera Performance

The camera setup equipped with Acer Z530 is not as good as you might have liked. The dual-SIM phone features an 8-megapixel rear shooter, which disappoints badly under lowlight environments. It loses out badly in terms of quality, and delivers shaken images without proper detailing and low shutter speed. The touch focus, however, works perfectly, and enables you to snap well focused images without any issues.Up front, the front-facing snapper with the same pixel count gives very good output, and is probably the best in the price bracket!

Battery Life

The 2,420 mAh battery packed with Acer Liquid Z530 gives sufficient amount of juice for normal work and play. The phone looks good enough to power up a 720p display, but with 8.9mm thickness, Acer could have easily accommodated a bigger and more powerful battery. Though, from where we see,Liquid Z530 endows just the right amount of power for moderate usage. Thanks to the Standby Intelligent Power Saving mode, its battery percentage dropped just by 5% during standby, and 25% after one hour of graphic intensive gaming. Overall, the decent battery performance of the handset makes up a good deal for standard users.

Connectivity Options

On the connectivity front, the dual SIM based Acer Liquid Z530 offers usual connectivity options along with the latest and most impressive 4G LTE. Advanced LTE capabilities deliver blazing download and upload speeds on this phone and give an excellent browsing experience without any snags. You can play around with this handset and can surf the internet with downloading speeds up to 150Mbps. The basic set of connectivity features packed with this phone include Bluetooth 4.0, A–GPS and Wi-Fi.

Though Acer is not recognized as a popular smartphone brand, the company has shown some keen interest in making powerful and good looking phones. The Z530 is one of the most affordable member of Liquid family, and is officially company’s third smartphone in the Indian market. From design to battery life, it leaves a strong impression in all major categories. However, it’s just a beginning for Acer and there is a long way to go to take on the likes of Xiaomi, Lenovo and Motorola. For now, we can say, Liquid Z530 makes up a worthycontender for players like Redmi 2 Prime, Yu Yuphoria, Motorola Moto E Gen 2, and the Lenovo A6000 Plus!
